Why Penny University?

Coffee shops in 17th century London were once called “Penny Universities”. Back then, for the price of a cup of coffee (you guessed it, one penny) people from all backgrounds gathered in coffee shops to talk, connect, and learn from one another. These shops were places that encouraged community and fostered relationships that went beyond a person’s typical circle. All with a cup of coffee!

Our goal is to embody this spirit more than 300 years later. Our hope is that our coffee provides opportunities for individuals to connect and share with those around them.
